NAFDAC, FCCPC Sign MoU to Deepen Consumer Protection, Public Health Oversight

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening collaboration in consumer protection, public health regulation, and reducing overlaps in regulatory enforcement between both agencies.

The agreement is expected to enhance coordination, information sharing, and joint regulatory actions in areas relating to consumer safety and market oversight.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, described the MoU as a strategic framework designed to improve synergy and cooperation between the two agencies in carrying out their statutory responsibilities.

Adeyeye said the partnership would support stronger implementation of regulatory measures, particularly in investigations, consumer protection, and coordinated enforcement activities.

She stressed the need for effective implementation of the agreement to ensure both agencies work more closely in safeguarding public health and protecting consumers from unsafe products and unfair market practices.

Executive Vice Chairman of FCCPC, Mr. Tunji Bello, said the agreement reflects a deliberate move toward more coordinated regulation within Nigeria’s consumer market.

Bello commended NAFDAC’s leadership and noted that the partnership would help establish effective mechanisms for sustained inter-agency collaboration in the public interest.

According to the agencies, the MoU will run for an initial period of four years, with provisions for renewal based on mutual agreement.
