The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Enugu State Government have formalised a partnership for the operational lease of the Commission’s Digital Industrial Park and NCC Digital Learning Centre in Enugu, in a move aimed at accelerating digital skills development, innovation and technology-driven economic growth.
Speaking on the partnership, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, said the initiative reflects the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that investments in digital infrastructure are matched by investments in human capital.
He noted that rapid advances in artificial intelligence, automation and other emerging technologies are transforming industries, reshaping the nature of work and redefining global competitiveness, making digital skills indispensable for economic growth.
According to him, the Digital Industrial Park and Learning Centre were established to serve as hubs for innovation, entrepreneurship and talent development, providing young Nigerians with the skills required to thrive in the digital economy.
Maida said the facilities are expected to support startups, attract technology investments, create employment opportunities and position Nigeria as a competitive destination for business process outsourcing (BPO), knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) and other technology-enabled services.
He stressed that infrastructure alone cannot deliver innovation without the people and partnerships needed to unlock its potential.
“By activating these facilities through the Enugu State Government, we expect young people to acquire globally relevant digital skills, entrepreneurs to transform ideas into successful businesses, and local enterprises to connect with opportunities across Nigeria and international markets,” he said.
The NCC boss said the collaboration supports the Federal Government’s digital economy agenda and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to build a one-trillion-dollar economy driven by productivity, innovation and private sector investment.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to expanding digital opportunities, strengthening human capital and ensuring that communities across the country benefit from Nigeria’s digital transformation.
