Binani Faction Dumps ADC in Adamawa, Rejects Congresses

A faction of the African Democratic Congress in Adamawa State loyal to Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani has announced its resignation from the party, citing what it described as the collapse of internal democracy and disregard for court orders.

In a communiqué issued after a stakeholders’ meeting held on April 18, 2026, at the residence of Hon. Mijiyewa Umaru Kugama, the group said the recently conducted party congresses were deeply flawed and lacked legitimacy.

The stakeholders, drawn from the three senatorial zones of the state, accused the party leadership at both the state and national levels of destroying internal democracy, undermining the rule of law, and imposing party structures against the will of members.

They specifically faulted the congresses conducted under the leadership of Ishaya Bauka (Rtd), describing them as manipulated and imposed. The group also alleged that valid court judgments and subsisting injunctions were ignored.

According to the communiqué, the party leadership engaged in systematic exclusion, imposition and intimidation of genuine stakeholders and aspirants, leaving the ADC without the moral credibility to function as a democratic platform in Adamawa State.

The group passed a vote of no confidence in the ADC leadership at both the state and national levels and announced what it called an immediate and irreversible mass resignation from the party.

The stakeholders also rejected the outcome of the recent congresses, declaring them null, void and of no effect.

They said they had resolved to align with another political platform they believe would guarantee fairness, justice and respect for the rule of law.

The communiqué further mandated Binani to lead consultations and determine a viable platform for political participation ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially the Adamawa governorship race.

It added that a coordinated defection structure would begin immediately across polling units, wards, local government areas and the state to ensure a seamless transition.

The group said it would also begin grassroots mobilization, political education and structural reorganisation under a new platform in pursuit of electoral victory.

The communiqué was signed by Hon. Mijiyewa Umaru Kugama, convener, and Hon. Saidu Njobdi Komsiri, secretary.
