Tinubu Appoints Ex-General Fadewa Homeland Security Adviser

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security, in a move aimed at strengthening internal security coordination and intelligence-driven operations across the country.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF).

According to the statement, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to improving inter-agency collaboration and enhancing Nigeria’s response to emerging security threats through integrated homeland security strategies.

In the statement signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations at the OSGF, Chris Ugwuegbulam, the Presidency described Fadewa as a highly decorated retired military officer with more than three decades of experience in military intelligence, counter-terrorism operations, national security strategy, and international security diplomacy.

Fadewa previously served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021, where he played a key role in strengthening Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework.

One of his notable contributions during his time at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) was the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC), a multi-agency intelligence platform designed to improve coordination among security institutions including the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.

The Presidency said the platform helped improve national threat assessment and strategic response coordination among security agencies.

Following his retirement from active service, Fadewa served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, where he contributed to policy discussions on policing, civil-security cooperation, and national security reforms.

He is also the author of the monograph titled “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” which focuses on frameworks for strengthening collaboration between civil institutions and security agencies.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired General would bring his experience and strategic expertise to support ongoing efforts to improve homeland security coordination, intelligence integration, and proactive risk management under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The President also urged him to deploy his professionalism and institutional knowledge toward advancing Nigeria’s national security objectives.
