Recent successes by security operatives in cracking high profile cases in the country are proofs of better coordination and cooperation among the security agencies.
According to the Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) in a statement, the rescue of the Daura District Head, Musa Usman and the arrest of his abductors as well as the arrest of those behind the murder of former Chief of Defence staff Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (Rtd), is as a result of improved intelligence gathering and sharing by security agencies.
BMO said in the statement signed by its Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke that this is further proof that the capacity of security agencies, especially that of the police has improved tremendously.
“We have all seen how the Police, within one week, rescued the District Head from the claws of his abductors after two months in captivity, and also paraded the people who killed the former CDS along the Abuja-Keffi highway in December last year.
“It is now common knowledge that Alhaji Usman who is the father-in-law of President Buhari’s Aide De Camp (ADC), Colonel Mohammed Abubakar was rescued by a Police team after a two hour gunbattle in Kano.
“The manner the Police team, comprising members of the Operation Puff Adder, painstakingly tracked the abductors across three states to Gangan Ruwa Quarters in Kano showed a high level of intelligence gathering that is comparable to what obtains in developed economies.
“As for Badeh’s murder, an inter-agency cooperation involving the military, the Police and the Directorate of State Service (DSS) led to the arrest of 15 suspects who were found to have been directly involved in the killing,” the group said.
BMO said the manner the security agencies cracked the Badeh murder case is a clear indication that no high profile case would go unresolved on President Muhammadu Buhari’s watch.
It said: “It is instructive that a high powered 27-member investigation panel led by Major General Bamidele Shafa was set up to unravel the circumstances behind the former CDS’ murder, especially as it came at a time he was standing trial over a controversial arms deal.
“We are aware that the panel was assisted by 21 investigators and no fewer than 32 people were interviewed, aside from visits to the murder scene and homes of the suspects in connection with the murder.
“At the end, the motive for the murder was established and even though 5 suspects are still at large, the panel concluded that it was a purely criminal act without any political undertone.
“That is what is expected in a country guided by justice and where the President is committed to ensuring that no criminal act goes unpunished. Not one where top level government officials were killed in their bedrooms, like Nigeria once experienced when the then Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Bola Ige was murdered,” it added.
The pro-Buhari group also urged the security agencies not to rest on their oars until they make good President Buhari’s pledge of making the country safer.
