APC, ADC Clash Over Membership Registration Exercise

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have traded accusations over the ruling party’s ongoing electronic membership registration exercise, underscoring rising political tensions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The disagreement follows claims by the ADC that civil servants were being pressured to participate in the APC’s e-registration drive. The ruling party has rejected the allegation, describing it as false and politically motivated.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party said the allegations were part of a broader disinformation campaign aimed at discrediting its digital registration drive. The APC accused the ADC of fabricating and circulating a fake APC membership slip to suggest that a known terrorist had been registered into the party.

According to the APC, the electronic registration exercise has recorded massive voluntary participation nationwide, prompting the party’s leadership to extend the registration deadline from January 31 to February 8, 2026. The party attributed the surge in registrations to growing public support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The APC insisted that participation in the registration exercise remains entirely voluntary and denied any form of coercion or intimidation of public servants. It maintained that opposition parties should engage in issue-based politics rather than attempt to undermine internal party reforms through misinformation.

The clash highlights intensifying political manoeuvring as parties seek to expand their membership base, strengthen internal structures, and deploy digital tools ahead of future electoral contests.
