INEC Resumes Continuous Voters Registration May 11, Sets July Deadline

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the third and final phase of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will commence on May 11, 2026, and end on July 10, 2026.

In a statement signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the Commission said the exercise would provide another opportunity for eligible Nigerians to register ahead of future elections.

INEC recalled that the second phase of the CVR was suspended on April 17, 2026, to allow for the clean-up of the voter register following its publication for claims and objections.

According to the Commission, the final phase is open to citizens who have attained the age of 18, as well as those who were unable to register during earlier phases of the exercise.

The Commission also urged already registered voters seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct their personal details to take advantage of the window.

Such services, INEC said, can be accessed through its online portal or at its state and local government offices nationwide.

As part of the process, the Commission disclosed that the voter register will be displayed for public scrutiny between July 23 and July 29, 2026, to allow citizens file claims and objections.

INEC said the exercise is a statutory requirement aimed at improving the accuracy, completeness, and credibility of the voter register.

The Commission assured Nigerians that all logistical arrangements had been concluded for a smooth exercise and urged eligible citizens to participate actively.
