
The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, MON, on Wednesday held a strategic meeting with a delegation from the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), led by Major General Garrick M. Harmon, Director of Strategy, Plans, and Programs. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters, Ship House, Abuja.
Discussions at the meeting centred on counterinsurgency operations and the pursuit of regional stability. The meeting also outlined key areas where strategic assistance from the United States.
The Minister, during the engagement emphasized the need for sustaining pressure against insurgent and terrorist elements operating within Nigeria and the broader African region.
Dr. Matawalle commended AFRICOM for its continued engagement and reaffirmed the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s commitment to deepening military cooperation with the United States Armed Forces. He stressed that the Nigeria–U.S. defence partnership remains a vital pillar in efforts to enhance national security and promote peace across the region.
