Nigeria Achieves 2025 Revenue Target Ahead of Schedule – President Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday announced that Nigeria met its revenue target for 2025 in August, over four months ahead of schedule, attributing the achievement to the government’s economic reforms, particularly efforts to strengthen the non-oil sector.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa during a meeting with founding members of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and The Buhari Organisation, led by former Nasarawa State Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, the President said the country’s economy is stabilising and becoming increasingly self-sustaining.

“The economy is now stabilised. Nobody is trading pieces of paper for foreign exchange anymore. The economy is now predictable. You do not need to know the CBN Governor to access foreign exchange or import goods,” President Tinubu said.

He emphasised that the bulk of the revenue now comes from non-oil sources, reflecting a shift toward a more diversified economic base.

Outlining his administration’s priorities under the Renewed Hope Agenda, Tinubu reaffirmed commitments to infrastructure development, healthcare improvement, food security, and national security.

“We are establishing agricultural mechanisation centres across all regions to build capacity, expand cultivation and harvest, and ensure food sovereignty. This programme is our path to food sovereignty,” he stated, adding that the centres would also serve as training hubs for young Nigerians.

Reflecting on the political journey shared with members of the former CPC, Tinubu described it as “a sweet memory” and thanked the group for their long-standing support.

“When I see people like you, I am determined to work harder,” he said, assuring them that the legacies of former President Muhammadu Buhari would be preserved, including plans to establish a Buhari House.

He also promised that more former CPC members would be given opportunities to contribute to his administration, saying: “Thank you for your patience until now. But first of all, we must cure the economy and bring hope to the people, which is what we stand for.”

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, commended Tinubu’s leadership and praised his inclusive approach toward all political stakeholders, particularly in Katsina State.

Al-Makura, speaking on behalf of the delegation, pledged the group’s loyalty and support to the Tinubu administration and expressed confidence in its success.

“You not only buried President Buhari but honoured him with a befitting state burial and full military honours. Your presence throughout the ceremonies was both comforting and reassuring,” Al-Makura said.

He further assured the President of the group’s dedication to the success of the APC government and his re-election in 2027.
