President Tinubu Condoles with Chimamanda Adichie on Loss of Son

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep condolences to renowned writer, Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, and their family over the death of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi.
In a condolence message issued on Thursday, January 8, 2026, the President said he received the news “with a deep sense of grief,” noting that the loss of a child is an experience of profound pain.
“As a parent myself who has suffered the loss of a loved one, no grief is as devastating as losing a child,” President Tinubu said, as he empathised with the family during what he described as a difficult time.
The President said he mourned the loss alongside the family, stating: “I empathise with the family at this difficult time, and I mourn this sad loss with them.”
He also paid tribute to Ms Adichie, describing her as “a literary icon who has brought joy and light to many homes globally,” and prayed for strength and comfort for her and her family.
“I pray she and her family find strength in the Almighty in this trying hour,” the President said, adding that his prayers remain with the bereaved family.
