2027: Tinubu Secures Backing from Enugu Political Heavyweights

Political leaders from Enugu State have pledged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, signalling a notable political alignment from the South-East.

The declaration was made on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where Governor Peter Mbah led a high-level delegation of stakeholders to meet with the President.

The delegation included Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke; former Senate President, Ken Nnamani; former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla; former governors Sullivan Chime and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; and former governor of old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo. Lawmakers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and academics were also in attendance.

President Tinubu, while addressing the delegation, described the endorsement as encouraging and said it reflected growing confidence in his administration’s reforms. He pointed to improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security as evidence that policy decisions were producing measurable outcomes.

He commended governors for effectively utilising federal allocations and emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration between federal and sub-national governments.

The President also highlighted key infrastructure priorities, including railway development, power sector reforms, and broader economic investments, noting that they remain central to long-term growth.

On the political landscape, Tinubu said ongoing realignments in favour of the ruling party were driven by reform outcomes and strengthened federal-state cooperation.

Governor Mbah said the visit was to express solidarity with the President’s vision and appreciation for federal support to Enugu State. He stated that the delegation represented over seven million residents and affirmed their readiness to support Tinubu in the 2027 election.

He added that projects inaugurated during the President’s January 2025 visit had contributed significantly to the state’s development.

In his remarks, Nnamani commended the President’s interventions in Enugu and the South-East, particularly in infrastructure, and affirmed that the state’s leadership was united in backing Tinubu’s re-election.

The meeting highlights a deepening relationship between Enugu’s political leadership and the federal government, with potential implications for political dynamics in the South-East ahead of 2027.
