Curfew Imposed After Deadly Jos Attack Leaves Dozens Feared Dead

By Dayo Dare

Gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on unsuspecting patrons at a bar in Jos North on March 30, killing at least 12 people.

The attack sparked outrage among residents, triggering mob violence that claimed 10 more lives and pushed the death toll to at least 26.

Authorities have since imposed a 48-hour curfew in parts of Jos. Announcing the restriction, Plateau State Gov. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang said an investigation is underway and assured residents that those responsible will be brought to justice.

Plateau has long remained one of Nigeria’s most volatile regions, with recurring clashes and attacks.

Paul Mancha, chairman of the Plateau State Youth Council, said the casualty figure could be higher.

“People were here in the evening, and unfortunately, wicked terrorists came and attacked our people,” he told Reuters. “We have counted scores of people who are now dead, and many others are in the hospital receiving treatment.”

The curfew, which took effect at midnight, will remain in force until April 1. Authorities have ordered residents to stay indoors as security personnel intensify patrols and maintain a strong presence across affected areas.
