The appeal came during a high-level virtual forum hosted by Africa Hyperscalers, which brought together regulators, data-centre operators, cloud providers, hyperscalers, and frontier-technology experts.

Stakeholders identified several urgent priorities for Africa’s AI readiness:

• Compute capacity for large-scale AI workloads

• Robust cloud infrastructure to support data-intensive systems

• High-speed connectivity for AI deployment and collaboration

• Reliable power supply to keep data centres and compute clusters running

• Supportive governance frameworks for innovation, privacy, and security

• Skilled talent pipelines capable of supporting emerging AI ecosystems

Speakers emphasized that without coordinated investment and policy support, Africa may struggle to benefit from AI-driven innovation and economic growth. Collaboration between governments, industry players, and academic institutions was identified as essential to building the continent’s AI competitiveness.
