President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, leading to the exit of two ministers and the appointment of their replacements.
The decision was conveyed in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
Under the changes, Wale Edun will step down as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. He is to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has been elevated to take over the role. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the same ministry.
Similarly, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa will exit the cabinet, with a directive to hand over to the Minister of State in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. Meanwhile, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as the ministerial nominee and minister designate for the ministry.
According to the directive, all handing-over processes are to be completed by the close of business on April 23, 2026.
Akume said the reshuffle is intended to strengthen cohesion in governance, improve policy synergy, and drive more impactful economic outcomes in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the President acted within his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The President expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them well in their future endeavours, while assuring remaining cabinet members that further efforts to reinvigorate government operations will continue.
