The Independent National Electoral Commission has confirmed that all 22 registered political parties in Nigeria have submitted their membership registers in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026 ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the Commission said the parties completed the submissions as of May 8, 2026, two days before the extended deadline granted by INEC.
The Commission explained that the extension followed concerns raised by political parties during a meeting held on March 24, 2026, over the timeline contained in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election.
INEC noted that it subsequently reviewed the timeline through a press statement issued on March 27, 2026, shifting the deadline for the submission of party membership registers from April 21 to May 10, 2026.
According to the Commission, the adjustment was made to align with the provisions of Section 77(4) of the Electoral Act 2026 and the dates fixed by political parties for their primaries.
Under the revised schedule, political parties were permitted to conduct their primaries between April 23 and May 30, 2026, while membership registers were required to be submitted not later than 21 days before the conduct of their respective primaries.
INEC said all registered political parties complied within the extended timeframe and disclosed that the submitted registers would now undergo verification processes in accordance with the law.
The electoral body reiterated its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible and inclusive elections ahead of the 2027 polls.
