Nigeria’s Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System Goes Live

Nigeria’s National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System has gone live, with the Federal Government describing the initiative as a significant step towards improving location identification and expanding access to economic and public services.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, announced the launch, urging Nigerians to find and begin using their postcodes through the official platform.
Tijani said the system was designed to make it easier to identify and reach individuals, businesses and communities across the country, with potential applications ranging from business deliveries and emergency response to the provision of government services.
He said accurate postcodes could help small businesses reach customers beyond their immediate neighbourhoods, enable families to receive emergency assistance and help government agencies reach communities with essential services.
“Every Nigerian deserves to be found. Every business deserves the chance to reach its customers. And every community deserves to be within reach of opportunity,” Tijani said.
The minister linked the initiative to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ambition of building a $1 trillion economy, saying Nigeria needed the right foundations to enable more Nigerians to participate in economic activities, trade and prosper.
Tijani urged Nigerians to visit postcode.gov.ng to find their postcodes and begin using them, while encouraging citizens to share the information with family members, friends and people in their communities.
He also sought feedback from users on their experience with the system, including how easy it was to find their postcodes and what they would like the system to make possible for their homes, businesses and communities.
According to Tijani, feedback from Nigerians would help the government improve the system and make it more useful and accessible across the country.
