Edo Govt Disbands Deputy Governor’s Media Crew
The Edo State Government has disbanded the media crew attached to the Office of the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu. The government has also directed the Ministry of Communication and Orientation to step in and provide media coverage for the Deputy Governor’s activities.
The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Osa Nehikhare, in a statement on Monday evening disclosed the decision was made following an incident that occurred during the colloquium held to mark the 60th anniversary of the Midwest Referendum celebration.
According to the Commissioner, some journalists who claimed to be members of the Deputy Governor’s media crew attempted to force their way into the hall where the governor and other invited dignitaries were already seated. This act was contrary to the accredited protocol that had been established for the media coverage of the event
The government said that the orchestrated and stage-managed walkout and disruption of the event was highly regrettable.
The future of Shaibu’s media crew
It is unclear what will happen to Shaibu’s media crew in the future. The government has not said whether the crew will be disbanded permanently or whether it will be reconstituted at some point in the future.
The disbandment of Shaibu’s media crew is a significant development in the political landscape of Edo State. It will be interesting to see how it plays out in the weeks and months to come.
