Tinubu: Nigeria Now High-Value Destination for Global Investment

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria is increasingly becoming a top destination for global investment, citing improved economic performance and rising inflows into key sectors despite existing challenges.

The President made this known on Thursday at the State House, Abuja, during a meeting with a delegation from the Civil Society Organisation on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI).

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu pointed to recent gains in the hydrocarbons sector as evidence of renewed investor confidence.

He noted that the economy has begun to rebound, attracting “unprecedented” investments worth billions of dollars, particularly in oil and gas. The President referenced the successful completion of the River Niger crossing on the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) Gas Pipeline as a major milestone in strengthening Nigeria’s energy infrastructure.

“I have just received the good news that our gas investment has crossed the most difficult river and is moving very effectively,” Tinubu said.

The meeting was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Reflecting on the broader economic outlook, the President said Nigeria had moved past a critical fiscal phase and was now on a path to recovery.

“We have survived the edge of bankruptcy; we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.

Tinubu also highlighted major infrastructure plans, including the proposed Sokoto-Badagry highway, noting that over 75 dams along the corridor could be utilised for irrigation, power generation, and technological development to improve livelihoods across the country.

On security, the President acknowledged ongoing challenges but expressed confidence in ongoing reforms, including deliberations around state policing.

“It’s not a situation that you can rectify with a snap of the finger. We shall overcome,” he added.

Earlier, the Director-General of CSCHEI, Kunle Yusuff, described the organisation as a United Nations-accredited body coordinating community-based, non-governmental, and faith-based organisations to drive socio-economic development and humanitarian efforts.

Yusuff commended the administration’s reforms, particularly in revenue generation, infrastructure development, and social investment programmes. He said government revenue had recorded growth exceeding 300 per cent and called for the expansion of beneficiary coverage under initiatives such as student loans and other welfare programmes.

He also praised the administration’s push for local government autonomy, describing it as a demonstration of political will to address structural governance challenges at the grassroots level.
