Africa CDC Appoints Former Nigerian VP Yemi Osinbajo as Senior Strategic Advisor

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has appointed Yemi Osinbajo as Senior Strategic Advisor to its Director General, Jean Kaseya.
The appointment comes as Africa CDC ramps up implementation of its Africa Health Security and Sovereignty (AHSS) Agenda, aimed at strengthening the continent’s voice in global health governance, boosting domestic financing, expanding local production of medical supplies, and building resilient health systems.
Osinbajo, who served as Nigeria’s Vice-President from 2015 to 2023, brings extensive experience in governance, economic policy, and institutional reform. During his time in office, he chaired the Economic Sustainability Committee, led business environment reforms, and played a key role in the country’s social investment programmes.
Announcing the appointment, Kaseya said Osinbajo’s expertise across governance, finance, law, and diplomacy would be critical as Africa seeks greater influence in shaping global health systems.
In his new role, Osinbajo will advise on Africa’s positioning in global health architecture reforms, sustainable health financing, local manufacturing of health commodities, and strategic partnerships within the African Union framework.
