MTN Nigeria Secures Spectrum Lease Agreement with T2 Mobile
MTN Nigeria has received approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to lease frequency spectrum from T2 Mobile Limited, formerly 9mobile. Effective October 1, 2025, the agreement covers 5 MHz of Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) in the 900 MHz band and 15 MHz of FDD in the 1800 MHz band, for an initial term of three years.
The lease will support MTN’s recently announced national roaming arrangement with T2, enabling MTN to manage increased traffic from T2’s customers on its infrastructure. Industry watchers see this as part of a wider trend towards collaboration, spectrum sharing, and efforts to expand broadband access across Nigeria.
By leveraging T2’s spectrum, MTN expects to boost network capacity, enhance service quality, and meet the rising demand for data and connectivity. The partnership also strengthens both operators’ positions in Nigeria’s competitive telecoms market, while advancing digital inclusion goals nationwide.
