FMC Jabi Rejects Claims Over Snake Bite Death in Abuja

The management of Federal Medical Centre Jabi on Sunday dismissed claims circulating on social media over the death of Ifunanya Lucy Nwagene, saying the hospital provided timely and appropriate medical care before she died from complications linked to a snake bite.
In a statement, the hospital said Nwagene was admitted on January 31, 2026, after suffering a snake bite and later developed severe neurotoxic complications.
The hospital said its medical team acted promptly on her arrival, administering emergency care that included resuscitation efforts, intravenous fluids, intranasal oxygen and polyvalent anti-snake venom.
According to the statement, plans were underway to transfer the patient to the Intensive Care Unit for advanced care when her condition suddenly deteriorated. Medical personnel immediately initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other life-saving measures, but she could not be revived.
The hospital rejected allegations of non-availability of anti-snake venom and claims of delayed response, describing them as unfounded and inconsistent with the facts of the case.
Management expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged the public to rely on verified information from credible sources rather than social media speculation.
It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, professional standards and quality patient care.
