Kwara Central: Saliu Mustapha Restates Commitment To Decent, Issue-based Campaign
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial candidate for Kwara Central Saliu Mustapha has reaffirmed his commitment to a campaign that is different from the norm ahead of the February 2023 election.
Speaking at the formal inauguration of his campaign council in Ilorin, Mustapha maintained that he expected his team to run the campaign decently.
He said: “while I have a strong belief in the capacity of this great team to deliver victory, and to do so through a fair and matured process; I should add that my expectation is that you will continue to uphold the principled campaign that we are known for.
“Going by our “Doing It Differently” slogan, I will expect that you will do things in ways that are different from the norm, that you will run a decent, proactive, issue-based campaign, one devoid of mudslinging, blackmail, name-calling, violence or any such anti-social behaviours.”
Mustapha who is also the Turaki of Ilorin provided some insight into his legislative agenda as the potential representative of Kwara Central in the 10th Senate.
“If, Insha Allah, I am voted as the next Senator representing the good people of Kwara Central, my legislative focus would revolve around human capital development, education, agriculture, development of infrastructure and supporting initiatives to foster security across our communities.
“Represented by the acronym – HEADS, these five focal areas would be my priority, either in lawmaking, oversight or representation. They would be the fulcrum of my legislative assignment upon which I will put my total concentration,” he added. .
The philanthropist acknowledged that he has a burden of expectation as the 4th Turaki of ilorin, but also vowed to always live up to his commitments to the emirate
“As the Turaki, I am conscious of the fact that both the people and the community I represent would set very high standards for me, which they would expect me to meet.
“But Insha Allah, I assure you that I am prepared to meet the expectations of our people, and I would strive to meet and surpass whatever standard and benchmark of performance set for me.
“As you may already know, I have tried over the years to do my best to help and support as many people as possible within our community.
“Through the Saliu Mustapha Foundation, I have consistently promoted education by awarding scholarships to brilliant but indigent students; I have given financial support to our traders and young people running small and medium enterprises; I have continued to support widows to live a more dignified life.
“But I do not believe this is the best that I can do, and I have the conviction that the Senate will offer me a bigger platform to further fight for the interest of all categories of people within the Kwara Central senatorial district.”
Also inaugurated at the occasion were ward canvassers who Mustapha charged to also mobilize voters for the party’s Presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the second term bid of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq
“Our task is not merely to deliver Saliu Mustapha as a Senator. Rather, we have the mandate to ensure that all the party’s candidates, including our Presidential flag bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, win by a landslide in Kwara”
The colourful ceremony was witnessed by Governor Abdulrazaq, state Chairman Prince Sunday Fagbemi as well as other aspirants and stakeholders of the party.
