Former APC chairman Abdullahi Ganduje made a political comeback just three months after retirement.
The former APC chairman joined APC stakeholders for a meeting in Abuja to speak on strengthening the party structure for the 2027 elections and to mobilize members for ongoing registration exercises.
“Let’s see how we can encourage our people to go and register. So far, we are doing very well, and we want to assure the people of Kano State that our members will register so that during the election, we come out in large numbers and win,” he said.
In attendance at the meeting were top APC dignitaries, including Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau; Senator Kawu Sumaila; House Appropriations Committee Chairman Abubakar Kabir Abubakar; former Kano Gov. Kabiru Gaya; Sulaiman Bichi; Mohammed Garba; as well as numerous current and former members of both national and state assemblies, along with former commissioners.
In the closed-door meeting, Ganduje declared that APC leadership in Kano is united and ready to claim the governorship position in 2027. He also implored Kano residents to take part in voter registration and promised a sure win in the upcoming election.
“We have the whole secretary to the Kano State government who left his party and joined our party. In fact, if I continue to mention those who have joined our party, you will know that APC has grown from strength to strength. Distinguished Honourable Member Abdulmumin Kofa is also joining our party.
“We are here and we have resolved that we will continue to work very hard to ensure that we succeed in the next gubernatorial election in Kano State.
“We are also here to strategize. We are here to see how we can encourage our people to go and register for the ongoing voter registration exercise. So far, we are doing very well. And we want to assure the people of Kano State that our members will register so that during the election, we come out in large numbers so that we can win the election.”
Deputy Senate President Barau also spoke, describing the meeting as a strategic step in preparation for the 2027 elections.
He said: “We have urged and we have also propelled our people and propelled ourselves that we are going to do more to tell the people of our state and indeed the entire northern states what the president is doing and what he has done for our nation.”
At the meeting, Ganduje also spoke on the possibility defection of Kwankwaso stating that it’s all rumors and Kwanwaso wouldn’t dare return to APC and consistently ridiculing the party. However, he believes there is a possibility of a reconciliation with Kwankwaso along side former Governor Ibrahim Shekaru but for now he doesn’t see them returning.
We too have heard these rumours, but we don’t take them seriously. In democracy, there’s little difference between a fake cleric and a thief. Kwankwaso once said only a madman would join APC.
“He even mocked President Tinubu when he was contesting, claiming Tinubu only developed Lagos. Now they want to return. If they come, we’ll welcome them as ‘madmen who swallowed their vomit,’” Ganduje said.
Ganduje highlighted recent defections to the APC, including serving legislators at both federal and state levels, and hinted at the possibility of the defection of Hon Jubrin who has in the past mentioned a likely return to the APC.
Prior to his re-emergence, Ganduje had resigned as APC national chairman on June 27, citing “urgent and important personal matters.”
In his resignation letter, he thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve at the party’s highest level. Following his exit, Ali Dalori, deputy national chairman (North), briefly assumed leadership until the APC National Executive Committee elected Nentawe Yilwatda as national chairman.
