NCC Represents Nigeria at WTDC-25, Contributes to Global Telecom Development

Nigeria has once again affirmed its commitment to global digital advancement as the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) played an active role at the 2025 World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25). The conference, held from November 17–28 in Baku, hosted delegates from over 160 Member States and concluded with a comprehensive 484-page provisional report outlining its resolutions.

With the theme “Universal, Meaningful, and Affordable Connectivity for an Inclusive and Sustainable Digital Future,” WTDC-25 focused on global strategies to expand digital access. As a key member of Nigeria’s delegation, the NCC joined discussions shaping the priorities of the ITU’s Development Sector, including broadband expansion, digital inclusion, policy reform, and strategies tailored to national contexts.

Nigeria’s active participation underscores its ongoing push to strengthen telecom infrastructure, address the digital divide, and align with global best practices. The outcomes from Baku are expected to influence policy directions and sector development across the country and the wider region.

How to Save Mobile Data: Smart Tips for MTN, Airtel, Glo & 9mobile Users

I became serious about managing my mobile data the day an entire bundle vanished before midday. I had bought it the night before, confident I was covered—only to wake up to lagging apps and a near-empty balance. That experience made one thing clear: data does not disappear without a cause.

If you’ve had a similar moment of shock, here are practical steps to help you stretch your data on MTN Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria, Glo, and 9mobile Nigeria.

1. Turn On Data Saver

Most smartphones offer a built-in data saver mode that limits background data use.

• Android: Settings > Network & internet > Mobile Network > Data Saver

• iOS: Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Low Data Mode

2. Restrict Background Data

Many apps consume data silently.

• Android: Settings > Apps > [App] > Mobile Data > Off Background Data

• iOS: Settings > Cellular > Toggle off data for non-essential apps

3. Monitor Your Data Consumption

• Android: Settings > Network & internet > Data usage

• iOS: Settings > Cellular (reset statistics monthly)

4. Always Use Wi-Fi for Heavy Tasks

Downloads, updates, backups, and large files should be done on secure Wi-Fi networks.

5. Turn Off Auto-Updates

• Android (Play Store): Settings > Auto-update apps > Over Wi-Fi only

• iOS: Settings > App Store > Off App Updates under Cellular Data

6. Manage Streaming Quality

Lower video resolution on YouTube/Netflix and download playlists on music apps over Wi-Fi.

7. Use Lite Apps

Consider apps like Facebook Lite, Messenger Lite, and Twitter Lite to save data and battery.

With a few habit adjustments, your data will last much longer. Remember: data doesn’t just vanish—it follows your digital lifestyle.

Nigeria Surpasses 142 Million Internet Subscribers in October 2025

Nigeria’s internet subscriber base continues its upward trajectory, reaching 142,004,662 users in October 2025, according to new industry data from the NCC. This marks an increase of 1,645,841 subscribers compared to September’s figures.

Mobile internet subscriptions dominate the landscape, accounting for the entire 142 million users. Additional insights show:

• 313,713 subscribers use ISP-provided wired/wireless services

• 239,672 access the internet via VoIP platforms

• 73,778 rely on fixed wired connections

In the mobile category, MTN Nigeria maintains a commanding lead with 78,149,569 subscribers, representing roughly 60% of the total mobile internet market and reflecting an impressive monthly growth of over 900,000 new users.

This surge highlights deepening connectivity nationwide and the increasing reliance on mobile broadband. As operators compete to meet rising demand, Nigerians can expect improved service quality and more innovative digital solutions.

How Leading Global Telecom Giants Are Shaping the Future of Connectivity

The global telecommunications industry is undergoing a rapid evolution driven by cloud-native networks, widespread fiber deployment, 5G expansion, IoT adoption, and software-defined systems. As demand for fast, secure, and unified digital services grows, the world’s biggest telecom players are investing heavily in next-generation technologies.

AT&T continues to strengthen its position through aggressive fiber expansion, advanced wireless coverage, and enterprise-focused digital services. The company is leveraging automation and software-driven network operations to cut costs and enhance reliability while deepening customer loyalty through bundled service offerings.

Verizon remains globally recognized for network quality. Its strategy centers on accelerating 5G rollout, expanding edge computing capabilities, and investing in high-capacity fiber. The goal: deliver powerful connectivity solutions that support emerging technologies and the needs of consumers, enterprises, and smart-city ecosystems.

These strategic moves illustrate how global telecom leaders are adapting to intensifying competition while shaping the future of digital communication. Innovation, resilience, and long-term investment continue to define the race toward universal high-speed connectivity.
