Jarring Tweets by Paystack Co-founder Ezra Olubi Lead to His Suspension

Paystack Co-founder Ezra Olubi is known not just for his influence in Nigeria’s fintech space but also for his alternative lifestyle and bold fashion choices. While he has always been a controversial figure because of his public persona, he is once again in the spotlight, this time for a far more disturbing reason.

His descent into public scrutiny began on Nov. 12, 2025, when he was accused of misogyny by former romantic partner Maxi Obae. According to her, she was involved in a polycule with Ezra and another woman,(NK) but the relationship quickly spiraled. During a live recording, she detailed Ezra’s alleged depravity, emotional manipulation and mistreatment of subordinates. She also spoke about his behavior toward domestic workers and described what she believed to be his “psychotic tendencies.”

“He does not deserve any friends.he treats all his friends like scum. Looks down on all of them. Expects them to literally worship the ground he walks on. Trains them too very hs rules and punishes them by withholding access and money when they do not comply. F**k him! She tweeted.

Maxi has since been slapped with a lawsuit for these defaming tweets and she has had to have these tweets taken down however this did not take away the widespread interest it triggered. Before the lawsuit, the public did some deep digging into Olubi’s old tweets. What they found was alarming.

In several resurfaced tweets, the tech founder allegedly admitted to secretly recording female friends in the bathroom and disturbingly endorsed the rape of minors as a supposed “cure for HIV.” He also wrote about bestiality, claiming he had been having sex with his cat for months. These revelations, along with other explicit posts, sparked national outrage and immediate calls for a formal investigation into his past behavior.

Although Olubi has since deleted his account, the backlash hasn’t eased. Following the uproar, Paystack announced his suspension.

“Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our Co-founder, Ezra Olubi. We take matters of this nature extremely seriously. Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation.

“Out of respect for the individuals involved and to protect the integrity of the process, we will not be commenting further until the investigation is complete,” the firm told TechCabal.

As of now, Olubi has not issued any public statement regarding the resurfaced tweets or the allegations of sexual misconduct. However, it says a lot that such an influential figure, someone who helped redefine Nigeria’s tech ecosystem and was honored with an OON award, could operate in plain sight while harboring such disturbing tendencies.

This saga is more than a scandal, it’s a reminder that power, influence and innovation don’t excuse harmful behavior. In a digital age where the internet never forgets, the truth has a way of resurfacing, no matter how carefully it’s buried.
