President Bola Tinubu on Friday marked the third anniversary of his administration by highlighting investments in healthcare, energy, enterprise development and public infrastructure as evidence that his economic reforms are beginning to yield results.
In a nationwide commissioning ceremony held simultaneously across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, the President said projects delivered under the Renewed Hope Agenda demonstrate that the administration’s policy decisions, though difficult, were necessary to rebuild the economy and lay the foundation for sustainable growth.
“The decisions we have taken since have been difficult but necessary. Today, the signs of recovery, resilience, and renewal are visible across our country,” Tinubu said in a brief anniversary address.
The President used the occasion to commission more than 20 groups of strategic projects across key sectors, describing them as tangible outcomes of ongoing reforms aimed at improving energy access, healthcare delivery, enterprise development and public services.
A major component of the commissioning focused on gas infrastructure projects under the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund, reflecting the administration’s drive to expand the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) as a cheaper alternative to conventional transport fuels.
Among the projects commissioned were a FEMADEC Energy CNG refuelling station at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri; a Portland Gas mother station in Ojota, Lagos, with a daughter station in Kubwa, Abuja; a network of 15 CNG refuelling stations developed by Ibile Oil and Gas across Lagos State; and Rolling Energy’s RLNG and LCNG facilities spread across Kaduna, Kano and Borno states.
Tinubu said the projects would help reduce transportation costs, promote cleaner energy and strengthen Nigeria’s energy security.
The health sector accounted for the largest share of projects unveiled during the anniversary event.
The President commissioned six new facilities in federal tertiary hospitals, including the President Bola Tinubu Complex at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja; a Trauma Centre Pharmacy Quality Control Laboratory at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria; an Infertility and Assisted Reproductive Technology Centre at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi; a Mental Health Complex at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital; a new Administrative Complex at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu; and a Laboratory Complex at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.
Other health projects commissioned include State Emergency Operations Centres in Kano, Sokoto and Katsina states, the Lagos Vaccine Hub in Oshodi, and the National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System fleet comprising 145 tricycle ambulances, six boat ambulances and 79 ambulances for federal health institutions.
The President also highlighted ongoing investments in primary healthcare, noting that nearly 3,000 primary health centres have been revitalised under the administration’s IMPACT programme over the past two years.
According to him, the programme has also delivered 27 Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care centres, 1,602 revitalised Level 1 facilities and 1,360 revitalised Level 2 facilities across the country.
Beyond health and energy, Tinubu commissioned the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) Industrial Development Centre in Ikorodu, Lagos, alongside other projects in education and public works.
The President said the projects were not merely symbolic achievements but evidence that government policies are translating into benefits for citizens and businesses.
“These projects are not ceremonial symbols. They are evidence that the Renewed Hope Agenda is being felt in homes, businesses, schools and hospitals across our federation,” he said.
Tinubu noted that the anniversary address was intentionally brief, adding that his administration would present a comprehensive account of its performance over the last three years during the June 12 Democracy Day celebrations.
“On June 12, our Democracy Day, we will present our full scorecard to Nigerians,” the President said.
Friday’s event forms part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration, which came into office on May 29, 2023, amid far-reaching economic reforms including fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange market liberalisation and efforts to expand investment in critical sectors of the economy.
