FG Equips 15 Colleges of Education with ICT Tools to Boost Digital Learning

The Federal Government has distributed Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment and instructional materials to 15 Colleges of Education across the country as part of efforts to strengthen teacher education and accelerate digital learning.

The initiative, implemented in partnership with the Government of Japan, the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (UNESCO-IICBA), and the African Union, forms part of a regional project aimed at promoting continuous and inclusive access to safe and quality education for girls in six African countries.

Speaking at the handover ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, said the intervention aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and national priorities focused on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), digitalisation, and reducing the number of out-of-school children.

In a statement signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, the minister stressed that teachers remain central to the success of education reforms and the delivery of quality learning outcomes.

She disclosed that the ICT package includes laptops, tablets, desktop computers, smart boards, projectors, printers and storage systems designed to enhance digital teaching and learning in the beneficiary institutions.

According to her, the project also provides capacity-building programmes to help educators integrate technology into classroom instruction, promote inclusive teaching methods and strengthen school safety practices.

Representatives of UNESCO-IICBA, the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) and the Embassy of Japan commended Nigeria’s efforts to improve teacher development and girls’ education, while reaffirming their commitment to supporting initiatives that expand access to quality education and safe learning environments.

The  Ministry urged the beneficiary institutions to ensure the effective use and maintenance of the equipment to improve teacher training and enhance learning outcomes nationwide.
