Court Orders Paternity DNA Test for Mohbad’s Son

By Dayo Dare

On Tuesday, September 2 2025, a magistrate court in Ikorodu ordered a DNA test to determine the paternity of late singer Mohbad’s son, Liam Aloba, following ongoing controversies surrounding the singer’s death and family disputes.

Mohbad, born Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, died in 2023 under circumstances that shook Nigeria’s entertainment industry. His death sparked nationwide protests and online campaigns demanding justice. Many linked his struggles to alleged harassment and disputes with his former record label, Marlian Music, with singer Naira Marley facing widespread accusations for the death of the singer.

Since Mohbad’s passing, his wife, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, has faced public backlash and accusations from Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, who questioned the paternity of Liam. In response, Joseph filed an application seeking a DNA test.

Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga granted the request, ruling that two DNA tests be conducted, one within Nigeria and another at an accredited hospital abroad. Both parties or their representatives must be present during the sample collection.

The court further directed that tests be carried out in government-approved facilities and authorized tissue or hair samples from Mohbad’s remains, currently preserved at the Military Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.
Joseph Aloba argued the DNA test is crucial to clarify paternity fraud allegations and safeguard the child’s welfare.

“Paternity is a live issue when it comes to determining the respondent’s maintenance obligations and the future of the child. The DNA is therefore necessary to avoid further delays and prejudice,” he said.
As the case unfolds, Nigerians continue to demand truth and justice in Mohbad’s death.
