The 2025 entertainment year delivered everything from massive musical adaptations to superhero rebirths and gripping original dramas. With films such as “Wicked”, “Superman”, and “Sinners” making noise at the box office, it’s no surprise that the 2026 Golden Globe nominations are stacked, and A-list actors are leading the pack once again.
On the television side, Noah Wyle earned a nomination for his role in The Pitt’s. Cast members from Adolescence, Black Mirror, The White Lotus, The Bear, The Beast in Me, and Severance also secured spots on the highly competitive list. One surprising twist came in the Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy category, where Wicked itself was not nominated, despite stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande landing individual nods for their performances.
This year’s nominations arrive during a major identity overhaul for the Golden Globes. The awards show dissolved its longtime Hollywood Foreign Press Association voting body and introduced new diversity standards — along with new categories. One of the most talked-about additions is the Best Podcast category, which qualified controversial names like Joe Rogan, Candace Owens, Tucker Carlson, Ben Shapiro, and Amy Poehler. Despite the buzz, many of the most polarising figures didn’t make the final nomination list.
Earlier this year, Emilia Pérez dominated the 2025 Globes with four wins, including Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy, while star Zoe Saldaña picked up Best Supporting Actress before winning the same category at the Oscars. Still, neither Emilia Pérez nor The Brutalist (the Globes’ 2025 Best Motion Picture — Drama winner) carried their momentum into the Academy Awards. Sean Baker’s Anora ultimately took Best Picture, and Mikey Madison shocked many by beating Golden Globe winner Demi Moore (The Substance) for Best Actress.
