FG Opens Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Road Sections to Ease Sallah Travel

The Federal Government has directed the contractor handling the ongoing Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway reconstruction project to immediately open all sections of the road to facilitate smoother movement of commuters during the Eid al-Adha celebrations.
The directive was issued by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, who instructed Infiouest Nigeria Limited, the contractor on the project, to ensure unrestricted access along the corridor throughout the festive period.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze, the government said the measure was aimed at reducing travel delays and improving safety for thousands of motorists expected to use the highway during the Sallah holidays.
The minister also confirmed that an earlier accident recorded along the route had been completely cleared, restoring normal traffic flow on the affected section.
To further strengthen security and traffic management, the government said security agencies have been deployed to strategic locations along the road to maintain law and order and protect road users during the holiday season.
The Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway is one of Nigeria’s busiest transport corridors, linking the Federal Capital Territory with major commercial and agricultural centres across northern Nigeria. The road serves as a critical route for passenger and freight movement and has been undergoing phased rehabilitation to improve safety, reduce travel time and support economic activities.
The directive comes amid increased vehicular traffic typically associated with the Eid al-Adha festivities, as millions of Nigerians travel across the country to celebrate with family and loved ones. Government officials say the temporary opening of construction sections is intended to minimise congestion while work on the highway continues.
