The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, on Monday met with members of the All-Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria to discuss outstanding payments owed to contractors handling government capital projects.
The meeting, held as part of ongoing efforts to review the Federal Government’s financial obligations, focused on developing a fair, transparent and structured process for resolving verified claims tied to capital expenditure commitments.
In attendance were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, the Permanent Secretary (Special Duties), the Accountant-General of the Federation, directors from the Cash Management Department and Home Finance Department, as well as other senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation.
The discussions centred on balancing the realities of public finances with the need to honour legitimate contractual obligations owed to indigenous contractors.
Oyedele stressed that addressing the outstanding liabilities was important not only for contractors but also for sustaining confidence in government, protecting jobs, ensuring business continuity and supporting economic stability.
According to the minister, the Federal Government remains committed to resolving the obligations in a manner that is orderly, credible and equitable.
Members of the contractors’ association commended the minister for engaging directly with them and expressed optimism over what they described as a constructive approach towards achieving a timely resolution of the issue.
