Buhari, Tinubu Mourns Islamic Preacher, Sheikh Abubakar Giro Argungu
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences over the death of Sheikh Abubakar Giro Argungu, a prominent Islamic preacher who passed away on Wednesday.
In a statement by the Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), Chief Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu described the death of Sheikh Giro Argungu as a “huge loss” to the Islamic community in Nigeria and beyond.
President Tinubu the cleric was a “renowned scholar” who had dedicated his life to the propagation of Islam and the promotion of moral rectitude.
“The voice of Sheikh Giro Argungu will long be remembered for his years of Islamic propagation and advocacy for righteousness. The activities of the cleric through the Islamic group, JIBWIS, where he had served as the Working Committee Chairman, has contributed immensely in guiding a large flock of Muslim youths over the years,” Tinubu said.
President Tinubu also said Sheikh Giro Argungu would be greatly missed for his “fearless advocacy for the downtrodden” and for “holding leaders accountable in meeting their obligations to citizens.”
The President prayed for the eternal rest of the soul of the departed cleric and extended his condolences to the family, the government and people of Kebbi State, and the Nigerian Muslim community.
Also, former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his condolences on the passing of Sheikh Abubakar Giro Argungu, a renowned Islamic preacher.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Mallam Garba Shehu, Buhari described the cleric’s death as a major loss for Nigeria and the Muslim world.

Sheikh Giro was born in Argungu, Kebbi State, Nigeria, in 1952. He studied Islamic theology at the University of Medina in Saudi Arabia. He was the Working Committee Chairman of the Islamic group, JIBWIS. He was a renowned scholar and preacher who was known for his advocacy for moral rectitude and his fearless criticism of injustice. He was a respected figure in the Islamic community in Nigeria and beyond
