Tinubu Nominates Tegbe as Power Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Nigeria’s Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination, conveyed to the National Assembly in line with constitutional provisions, follows the resignation of former minister Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.
In a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the Presidency said Tegbe brings more than three decades of experience across public and private sector roles, with a strong focus on fiscal policy, governance, and institutional reform.
Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives in fiscal reform, regulatory frameworks, and strategic transformation across multiple sectors.
He is currently the Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, overseeing engagements aimed at deepening economic and development cooperation between Nigeria and China, including coordination aligned with the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
According to the statement, Tegbe also has prior experience in Nigeria’s power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reforms involving agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
The Presidency said his nomination is expected to reinforce ongoing efforts to stabilise the national grid, deepen sector reforms, and attract long-term investment into Nigeria’s electricity value chain.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that, if confirmed, Tegbe would leverage his expertise to deliver improved outcomes in the power sector as part of the administration’s broader reform agenda.
