Cardoso Hosts S&P Global as Nigeria Pushes for Stronger Credit Ratings

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, on Wednesday hosted a delegation from S&P Global Ratings as part of the agency’s periodic review of Nigeria’s sovereign credit ratings.
The delegation, led by Roberto Sifon-Arevalo, held discussions with Cardoso during a working visit to Abuja as part of a broader engagement with key ministries, departments and agencies.
In, Cardoso highlighted Nigeria’s improving macroeconomic stability, stronger economic resilience and the gains recorded from ongoing reforms across critical sectors of the economy.
The CBN Governor also reaffirmed the commitment of the country’s leadership to sustaining the reform agenda and consolidating the gains achieved so far into long-term growth and development.
The engagement comes as Nigeria continues efforts to strengthen investor confidence, stabilise the foreign exchange market, improve fiscal discipline and boost external reserves following a series of monetary and fiscal reforms introduced over the past two years.
S&P Global’s review forms part of ongoing assessments by international ratings agencies used by investors to evaluate the country’s creditworthiness and economic outlook.
