Road to 2027: South-South ADC Backs Amaechi Presidential Quest

Former Edo State Governor and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), John Odigie-Oyegun, has announced the South-South zone’s unanimous endorsement of Rotimi Amaechi for the 2027 presidential race.

Oyegun made the declaration on Friday during the ADC South-South leaders’ consultative meeting held in Benin City, Edo State, where Amaechi formally briefed party leaders of his intention to contest for the nation’s highest office.

According to Oyegun, the leaders of the zone expressed appreciation for Amaechi’s decision to formally consult them before fully launching his ambition. He described the move as a sign of respect for the region’s leadership structure and political tradition.

“In the process, we are glad that our son took advantage of this meeting to brief us formally of his intentions to run for the presidency of our great nation,” Oyegun said, noting that the gesture was well received.

He confirmed that after deliberations, the South-South ADC leadership reached a unanimous decision to give Amaechi full backing in his quest for the presidency.

“I can report that a unanimous decision was taken to give him all the support that he needs to pursue his ambition,” he added.

Oyegun further revealed that the South-South ADC leaders would begin holding regular meetings to strengthen coordination within the zone, exchange ideas, and position the region as a model of political organisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also stressed that speakers at the meeting emphasized the need for peace, stability, and the rejection of violence in the run-up to the polls. The leaders expressed hope that the political climate would allow for a free, fair, and credible electoral process.

Reaffirming the ADC’s commitment, Oyegun stated that the party would play its part in ensuring a peaceful and issue-driven campaign as preparations for 2027 gather momentum.
